It's Never Too Late. My Interview About PTSD

Healthy and Wellthy Conversations Interview with Casey Bell

Review: Breaking the Chains of Transgenerational Trauma: My Journey from Surviving to Thriving by Dorothy Husen

The title is a bit of a mouthful but the book will make your heart full. Right from the start of the book I was hooked; the author jumps right into her story and I wanted to know more! When she shares about her mother and grandmother’s stories it made sense how she was raised. It wasn’t a lack of love, it was what they knew and that is what they had to pass on.

How healing my childhood trauma helped me heal my Type II Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome.

Getting to the root of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder can help you in many areas of your life. Here is my story of how healing my childhood trauma helped me to heal my chronic illnesses of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

Develop a Mistakes Management Plan

A few months ago, I was sitting at my computer waiting for my course participants to log into our Zoom meeting (the new pandemic version of going on stage). The course I was teaching—Pain to Possibility: How to Heal at the Emotional Root of Your Chronic Illness, Pain, and Disease—was the first online seminar I’d ever created—it was my beta course. So I was putting together the content for each class as we went, week by week. Now at the halfway point, I was feeling incredibly good about what I’d presented so far and what I’d planned for this session.

P Stands for Pause

In my book, Breaking the Chains of Transgenerational Trauma, My Journey from Surviving to Thriving, I share a six-step process for healing childhood trauma, that I call Parent Myself Securely. These six steps correlate with each letter in PARENT in which P stands for pause.

The dictionary definition of a pause is a brief interruption in action or speech. In my book, I describe the pause this way:

A Stands for Accept

P.A.R.E.N.T. Myself Securely is a Mind/Body process you can use to heal your childhood trauma and Break the Chains of your family’s Transgenerational Trauma. When I first introduced P.A.R.E.N.T. in my book, Breaking the Chains of Transgenerational Trauma, My Journey from Surviving to Thriving, my readers asked me for more information about the process. Here’s more information on the letter A.

R Stands for Reside

“Ahhh, home sweet home,” I said to myself, as I plopped down into the big, soft, lazy boy recliner in my living room. My legs popped up and stretched out on the leg rest as I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths.

I had been out marketing, running errands, and getting “stuff” done. The seemingly endless “stuff” that needs to be taken care of in my busy modern life. It felt good to be home. This is the rhythm of my life. I go out to interact with the world (get stuff done), then I come back home to relax.

E Stands for Express Myself

To P.A.R.E.N.T. Myself Securely, P stands for Pause, A Stands for Accept Myself, R Stands for Reside within Myself, and E Stands for Express Myself.

I struggle with expressing myself. I always have. This goes back to my childhood and what happened to me; my trauma. It’s how I learned to belong and feel safe within my family. I stayed quiet and still and small and invisible. I kept hidden away from the adults. Especially the upset adults. It worked for me when I was little.

N Stands for Nurture Myself

How do you nurture yourself? There’s seems to be many different ways we can answer that question. What do I mean by nurture? Is it like getting my nails done? Like pampering myself? Is it like eating healthy foods and getting a good night’s sleep?

T Stands for Trust Yourself

Trust is where the rubber meets the road. This is where your mind must trust your body and get out of the way. Let your body lead your mind. Don’t worry. Your body knows how to do this. Your mind might try to “fix” you or try to control by interfering with directions “Do steps 1,2, & 3…”.
